Introduction
The information below is certainly not intended to be an inclusive list of
all that there is in Pickaway County and the surrounding area, or of
organizations that are of importance. Rather, this is a sampling of entities
that are important to me because they have somehow touched my life. Please be
sure to check out my “newsletter” page as I will be giving updates on any news
or events concerning the organizations below….and other cool stuff.
Circleville and Pickaway County
Moving to Circleville, Ohio has been one of the best decisions Gregory and I
have ever made. I am in love with Ohio overall, and certainly spent enough
years enjoying the Mansfield area, and then the Columbus area. But it was when
we moved to Circleville that for the first time in my life I felt like I was
home. Circleville is the perfect place. The city is beautiful with historical
buildings and all of the conveniences you desire from a big city.
We have a movie theater which shows the hottest hits as soon as they are
out. We have dance studios, a playhouse theater, incredible restaurants,
museums, Bed and Breakfasts and downtown shopping where unique gifts, clothes
and furniture abound. There are many, many parks nearby for hiking or just
enjoying the scenery. We even have a winery! Check out
www.pickaway.com for more information!
Pickaway County Animal Shelter
I would be remiss if I did not mention the Pickaway County Animal Shelter.
The heroic work that goes on within its walls extends throughout the county.
Animal rescue is something that gladdens as well as saddens me. I am grateful
for those who care and do what they can, and saddened by those who don’t have
the spirit or the intelligence to understand how to be kind to animals. I
believe in adopting animals…. I have three dogs who landed in my life this way.
Even if you are not in a situation where you can adopt an animal, you can still
help your local shelter in a variety of ways. The Pickaway County Animal
Shelter is located at 21253 Ringgold Southern Road, Circleville, Ohio 43113.
Their phone number is 740-474-8690
Another way you can be of help is through a local veterinarian’s office.
Perhaps they are not able to take cash donations, but they may need blankets,
food, cages…. And they also may have taken in a furry friend who is looking for
a home just like yours.
Here is a list of Pickaway County Veterinarians. This list may not be

ArtsaRound
ArtsaRound is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting art and
artists in Pickaway County and the regional area. The endeavors this group has
played a role in include Battle of the Bands, an energizing annual event where
local high-school talent can show their stuff on the stage and compete for
prizes such as studio time! ArtsaRound also supports community events such as
Third Thursdays, which are monthly events in the summer that will satisfy your
appetite for good food, good music and good company. ArtsaRound plays an
important role in helping to coordinate the Ted Lewis Music Festival (see
below). This organization is also offering a program to help with art in
schools.
One of the projects of ArtsaRound which is very dear to me is the ArtsaRound
Gallery at Berger. This is a gallery located in the beautiful main lobby areas
of our community hospital, Berger Hospital. The idea backing the gallery is to
support art and healing as well as local and regional area artists. All art
displayed on the gallery walls is for sale and artists make a donation to the
Berger Health Foundation from the proceeds of each sale. The exhibit changes
monthly, so if you want to know what is being shown now, please look at the
Berger site
www.bergerhealth.org.
If you would like more information about ArtsaRound or would like to be on
our mailing list, please let me know! You can e-mail me at

Berger Health System
How can I mention ArtsaRound and the ArtsaRound Gallery at Berger without
saying something special about Berger. Berger Health System is the community
hospital serving folks who live in Pickaway County, Ohio and the surrounding
area. Dedicated to providing services so patients can receive their care close
to home, Berger is growing by leaps and bounds. For example, the Bradley Cancer
Center has recently opened its doors. This is a beautiful facility located in
the Noecker Building at Berger Hospital. For more information about the Bradley
Cancer Center and other services offered by Berger, please check out the web
site:

Ted Lewis Museum
Is Everybody Happy? I am… I became so immediately when I first walked
through the doors of the Ted Lewis Museum. The museum is housed in a restored
historic building in downtown Circleville on Main Street and includes an amazing
collection of memorabilia about Ted Lewis, his career and his personal life. If
you don’t know, Ted was a famous vaudevillian who traveled all over performing
and wherever he would go he would always ask the audience if there was anyone
there from his home town, Circleville, Ohio. Do you remember Me and My Shadow?
That was Ted!
Not only was Ted an amazing performer, he also did a great deal for
Circleville. He lead the parade in our first Pumpkin Show, he dedicated a park,
and more. The Ted Lewis Park is the setting of the Ted Lewis Music Festival
which occurs every spring. Watch my newsletter page and I will give you more
details on the festival. For more information about Ted and the museum, here is

Absolute Dance Sport
and the Tuscan Table
My friends, Dorothy and Tom Cooper
and Jeff Dow are the owners of a beautiful dance studio
called Absolute Dance Sport where they offer a wide variety of lessons. Old and
young, singles and couples take advantage of the open and welcoming space and
the warm environment for learning to dance. They are also the owners of the
newly opened Tuscan Table where the food and the atmosphere are beyond compare!

Roundtown Conservancy
The Roundtown Conservancy is an organization based in Circleville, Ohio
dedicated to improving quality of life in the area through the protection and
improvement of the environment. This includes protecting rural landscapes as
well as architectural heritage.
The RTC has been involved in many projects. While the Octagon House is
certainly not its only project, it is one that is dear to my heart. No matter
where you live, you can help save the Octagon House! Please check out
www.roundtownconservancy.org to learn more.
The Old Bear’s Den
If you have never been to the Hocking Hills in Ohio, you are truly missing
out. The area pulls you into its hills and woods and offers you healing and
peace of mind. Artists seem to abound in this area and I have had the honor of
meeting one such artist. Eric Hoffman is a photographer. To describe him that
way really does not do him justice. His work is so beautiful and so compelling
you are drawn into each piece. Eric generously offers photography workshops at
The Old Bear’s Den. He also offers this space for groups of up to 25 for
workshops and retreats. To learn more about The Old Bear’s Den Nature
Photography Center “where photography and nature meet in the beautiful Hocking
Hills, Ohio,” please see
